It’s a long bank holiday weekend in the UK and taking advantage of the extra days holiday have been hundreds of revellers attending the 15th Birmingham Pride.
Sixteen floats left Victoria Square on Saturday lunchtime and made their way around streets in the city centre. The party atmosphere was defiantly in evidence as the crowed whooped and whistled and cheered. UK winner of the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest Katrina, Eurovision 2007 UK entry Scooch and ex-S Club member Jo O’Meara were also in attendance on Saturday.
Two artists famous in the 1980s, Sonia and Hazell Dean, were scheduled for Sunday. "One World, One Love, One Community" is this year’s theme. Councillor Martin Mullaney, city council cabinet member for leisure, sport and culture, said the festival was part of an annual programme of community-run events which the authority was "proud to support".
He said: "I know that as with previous years, Pride will welcome everyone, gay or straight, who wants to take part in and enjoy this wonderful, colourful and positive celebration."
