Organised by Exeter LGBT – a group including members of Cornwall Police, Devon County Council and the University of Exeter, the pride event was kicked off by Marcel Choules, The Lord Mayor of Exeter.
After a rainbow flag parade through the main streets, people were encouraged to gather in Gandy Street where workshops, stalls, activities and debates about the Equality Bill and homophobia in sport were organised, according to the BBC. Other attractions included speed dating, circus skills tuition and health workshops.
Speaking before the event, Alan Quick, chairman of Exeter Pride committee told Exeter’s Express & Echo: “This will be Exeter’s biggest Pride event and we expect to attract hundreds of people to the city from around the South West and beyond. It is about us having pride in our contributions to a vibrant and diverse city, and the city having pride in us.”
